Is there anyway to go into a "safe" place if we are going to be away from the game for an extended period of time? It could be set up so that everything (money from companions and people attacking you) stops until you go back into the gaming area. It could be like hiding in your coffin.

There's no formal place to go except to lose your health but as soon as you heal you'll be fair game.

Or you could create a second character and switch to that one. The downside is that your main character doesn't earn blood, health, energy, or chi while you're away.

Go to the bottom of the "my vampire" tab ingame and you will see this option. I believe it is only available on myspace, though.
